(working title)

Ann Arbor Beulah MI.jpg (78247 bytes)

A new book from Michael C. Kelly

This book will be a comprehensive and nostalgic look at Michigan railroading from 1950 to 1979. We will visit seldom-seen small towns from all over the state, in addition to well-known railfan favorites. Currently, we are desiring COLOR slides and quality prints of the following Michigan railroads: Ann Arbor; Chesapeake & Ohio; Chessie; Detroit, Toledo, & Ironton; Grand Trunk; Conrail; New York Central; Pennsylvania Railroad; Penn Central; Norfolk & Western; and Wabash for the Lower Peninsula. Chicago & Northwestern, Milwaukee Road, and Soo Line in the Upper Peninsula. Also, any operating shortlines from that era are welcome.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michael Kelly is 32, and resides in the St. Louis, MO area. Why a Michigan book? The Kelly family has been vacationing in Michigan since the 1930's, when James C Kelly was a secretary to the VP/Operations of the Wabash. This meant traveling in Company Business cars all over the system, including all the way to Frankfort on the Ann Arbor. Later, Mr. Kelly became Chief Clerk to the General Manager, responsible for issuing Company passes. Michael's earliest memories of the Ann Arbor date back to 1973, watching the carferries get switched at Elberta, and riding along with Dad to chase AA freights, where shots like the one at Beulah were taken. Michael also was lucky enough to sail aboard the Viking in 1975, from Kewanee to Elberta. Those memories have led to an interest in Michigan railroads in general, hence this book. Your memories and shots and greatly appreciated. Michigan is a beautiful state, and it's railroad scenes were truly unique. We hope you'll join us in this effort.

BE A CONTRIBUTOR

We prefer action shots, as they tell more of a story, but roster shots that include more than a locomotive are acceptable.

We will try to return your contributions as quickly as possible.

All contributors who's photos are in the book will receive a free copy of the book, and proper caption credit.

For caption purposes, location and approximate date are extremely important.
